EAI is pleased to present a video program highlighting Dan Graham's collaborations with iconic composer/musician Glenn Branca (1948-2018), in partnership with Greene Naftali Gallery. Introduced by Graham, the screening will include two video works that feature Branca's music — Westkunst (1980) and Two-Way Mirror Cylinder Inside Cube and a Video Salon (1992) -- and the 1983 Graham/Branca performance collaboration Performance and Stage-Set Utilizing Two-Way Mirror and Video Time Delay. Graham's exhibition "A New Look at TV and a Funhouse" is on view at Greene Naftali through June 16th.

Dia Art Foundation and Electronic Arts Intermix (EAI) presented a special members screening of artist Dan Graham's Two Way Mirror Cylinder Inside Cube and a Video Salon (1992) and Classic and Recent Installations/ Pavilions 1974-2008 (2009). The 1992 video Two Way Mirror Cylinder Inside Cube and a Video Salon explores Dan Graham's investigations of the urban landscape and highlights his rooftop Urban Park Project, which was an installation on the roof of Dia Center for the Arts from September 1991 to January 2004. Compiled by Graham and edited at EAI in 2009, Classic and Recent Installations/Pavilions 1974-2008 documents ten of the artist's installations that span twenty-five years, focusing on the architectural sculptures that he refers to as "pavilions." The screening followed a reception.

Dia Art Foundation presented Circa 1971: Early Video & Film from the EAI Archive at Dia:Beacon, Riggio Galleries. Circa 1971 brought together 20 moving image works from EAI's collection of over 3,500 media artworks. Celebrating EAI's 40th anniversary, the exhibition was organized by guest curator Lori Zippay, Executive Director of EAI.

Circa 1971 included pieces by Vito Acconci, Eleanor Antin, Ant Farm, John Baldessari, Lynda Benglis, Shirley Clarke, Dan Graham, Nancy Holt and Robert Smithson, Joan Jonas, Gordon Matta-Clark, Nam June Paik, Raindance, Anthony Ramos, Carolee Schneemann, TVTV, Steina and Woody Vasulka, and others.

Taking the year of EAI's founding as its point of departure, the exhibition set in dialogue a series of diverse works created in and around 1971, which are linked by alternative artistic and activist impulses. Circa 1971 exposed the generative encounters among these artists and influences and initiates unexpected correspondences between seemingly disparate works.

Sound Stage was a special Saturday afternoon screening program featuring artists' videos that are driven by music performance. Sound Stage was presented as part of Chelsea Sound: A Not-For-Profit Festival of Artists in Sound, organized jointly by Printed Matter Inc., Eyebeam Art + Technology Center, Electronic Arts Intermix and Family Business. Taking place in Chelsea's Gallery District on Saturday, October 27th, the collaboratively produced festival included a series of performances, sound installations, and video screenings throughout the day across four venues.

Featuring works from the last four decades by a diverse group of artists, Sound Stage presented a program of videos that foreground musical performance. The screening embraced artists' documentation of music performances, artists' performances that incorporate live music, and works created for the camera and screen in which musicians take center stage.

EAI participated in The NY Art Book Fair 2009, organized by Printed Matter at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center. EAI's project space, installed in P.S.1's basement vault, presented FREE TRADE, a program of videos exploring economies of exchange in a globalized world: the circulation of art, ideas, information and capital. On view were new and historical works, drawn from EAI's extensive collection, by artists including Chris Burden, Bernadette Corporation, Martha Rosler, Dan Graham, VALIE EXPORT, Dara Birnbaum, Kalup Linzy, Seth Price, Lawrence Weiner, Harry Dodge and Stanya Kahn, Ken Jacobs, Gordon Matta-Clark, Muntadas, Takeshi Murata, Leslie Thornton and Ryan Trecartin.

Electronic Arts Intermix (EAI) is pleased to participate in The 2008 New York Art Book Fair. EAI will present a special program of videos that considers issues of access, circulation and obsolescence. The program explores "out of print" art and media, in the form of limited edition videos, site-specific installations, Internet searches, one-off broadcasts, and ephemeral actions and performances that exist only as documents or artifacts.

EAI partnered with Y-3 to present a program of video works from the EAI collection on the exterior of Y-3's newly opened location in Miami's Design District. During the PERFORMA07 performance biennial, EFA Gallery was transformed into a video lounge to host Electronic Arts Intermix's Viewing Room, a program that provides free public access to one of the foremost collections of video art in the world. Visitors to EFA Gallery were able to choose from a curated selection of major performance-based video works by over 30 artists from the EAI Collection. Viewers were able to watch these seminal performances and contemporary classics at their own pace in a comfortable viewing environment. During the opening reception on Friday, November 2nd, programs featuring selected works were installed throughout the gallery.

Dan Graham spoke about his live video pieces from the 1970s. The video produced in these installations was, by design, a real-time element and was deliberately not recorded. Graham guided the audience through his own documentation of this fascinating period in his work, sharing rarely-seen plans, photographs, and video of these pieces in action. In addition, the artist discussed a number of unrealized works. Following the talk, there was a Q&A with Graham.

EAI collaborated with the NADA Art fair to present a screening of videos by artists involving intervention, intrusion, and trespassing. Documenting literal, formal, or conceptual acts of breaking and entering, their works harness disruption and surprise. Artists in the program included Bernadette Corporation, Chris Burden, VALIE EXPORT, Delia Gonzalez and Gavin Russom, Dan Graham, Klara Liden, Rachel Mason, Takeshi Murata, Michael Smith, and Ryan Trecartin.
 
EAI AT THE ARMORY SHOW 2006

EAI collaborated with artist collective Paper Rad on a new site-specific project for The Armory Show 2006. Paper Rad transformed EAI's booth at the fair into an immersive installation featuring their vibrant illustrations, constructions, and multimedia works. EAI also featured new works by artists including Bernadette Corporation, Dan Graham, Shana Moulton, Takeshi Murata, Seth Price, Steina, and Lawrence Weiner, among others.

Dia and Electronic Arts Intermix (EAI) presented a day-long screening of video works from EAI's collection. The videos screened featured works by artists who participated in collaborative programming presented by Dia and EAI at Dia:Chelsea from the mid-1990s until 2004. Artists included Marina Abramovic , Joan Jonas , Gordon Matta-Clark , Kristin Lucas , Mike Kelley , and Dan Graham , among others. Admission was free.

EAI and Dia presented a free open-air screening of video works by Dara Birnbaum and Dan Graham. The screening, which took place at Graham's Urban Rooftop Park Project at Dia, featured individual works by each artist, a collaborative piece, and the premiere of Birnbaumís Attack Piece, a 1975 two-monitor installation that was recently restored by EAI.

As the keystone of EAI's 30th anniversary events, Museum of Modern Art presented First Decade: Video from the EAI Archives, a major retrospective that looked at the early days of video through EAI's historical collection. Featuring 60 works, the twelve-part program explored themes and issues ranging from performance and the body; narrative; cultural essays; activism, and poetics.

Mediated Presence: Three Decades of Artists' Video from Electronic Arts Intermix is a three-part survey, spanning the years 1967 to 1997, that explores the rich and diverse modes by which artists use video to investigate self. Tracing how artists have articulated a mediated relationship with the viewer and technology, this program re-visits notions of performance and gesture within the framework of three decades of artists' video, and provides a historical context for recent works.
