Time Zones: Documentation of an Installation

1980, 33:40 min, b&w, sound

The manipulation of time through video is the focal point of Schneider's 24-monitor installation Time Zones, originally presented in 1980. One ordinary moment in time was recorded simultaneously in the world's twenty-four time zones, in locations including the Himalayas, Japan, Hong Kong, India, Europe and America. Schneider's construction illustrates Marshall McLuhan's dictum that television has transformed the world community into a "global village."

Recorded with: Tom Zafian. Additional Material: Tony Ramos, Juan Downey, Bill Viola, Dena Crane.
