Whispering Pines 3

Whispering Pines 3 continues Moulton's evocatively oblique video series. Seated in an easy chair, wearing a multi-colored neck brace and surrounded by odd home decorations, Moulton's protagonist Cynthia makes notes in her diary, allowing us a glimpse into an inner life that seems to oscillate between concerns with animals and mass-market objets d'art. Her rumination on a recently acquired wall hanging — "I really like its texture but I can't understand what it is trying to say" — could serve to illustrate the uncanny psychic spaces that Moulton depicts in these works.
