The Kitchen
1974-75, 19 min, b&w, sound

Description

This historical compilation was produced in 1975 by The Kitchen to document and present examples of its video, music, dance and performance art programs. The resulting compendium of multidisciplinary art works supported and exhibited at the Kitchen in its early years offers a window onto the downtown art and performance scene of the 1970s. Among the eight artists and works featured in this document are Shigeko Kubota's 12-monitor video installation Video Poem; Trisha Brown's solo dance piece Primary Accumulation; Beryl Korot's four-monitor video installation Dachau; Steve Paxton's Contact Improvisation Concert, featuring five dancers and video; Robert Kushner's performance piece The Persian Line; Ron Clark's Give or Take a Few Words; a "word event" by Jackson Mac Low; and an excerpt of Richard Landry performing in Jean Dupuy's free-wheeling, multi-artist performance event, Soup & Tart.
